Hey you want to know what the government did with the social security money you paid in? Spent it on programs and lower taxes for the 60 years….and now it's gone

@poindexterwitkowsky so you and 8 others have no clue how the economy works. social security is a huge liability. yeh it will be able to pay out claims until 2030 maybe. but within 6-7 years it will be spending more money than its making. That surplus could grow to 3-4-5 trillion by then but once it goes into the red unless we have a massive and quick population collapse SS will go from insolvency to bankruptcy in less than a decade once it dips below. odds are the us $ will collapse b4 then

The government collects SS taxes from employees and employers each year.
The government pays out SOME of that money to current retirees.
The government Spends the rest on ordinary stuff and does not save in trust fund or invest it. And they don't count the IOU as debt in the defecit calculations…just free money to spend.
There is NO TRUSTFUND.
By definition it is a Ponzi Scheme

Liberal is not what liberals are. There is nothing liberating about being a liberal If you are calling for greater control of our lives by the government, that's the opposite of liberation. The modern day liberal has nothing in common with the Jeffersonian concept of liberal and liberty. So if we have people who call themselves liberals, who are subscribing to an ideology that is the opposite of the spirit of our founding documents, then they are on the wrong, and yes, bad side of things.

Bear in mind when they're talking about privatizing Social Security that they're only talking about partially privatizing it. Partial reforms are these are especially dangerous because not only do they have the inherent instability that comes in every government institution, but it also opens up Pandora's Box of corporate corruption. Complete privatization where the government gets out of Social Security completely would be a very good idea, but partially, this is dangerous.
